Vyacheslav Azarov

For the 2026 International Women’s Day, the ukrainians official media published articles about Ukrainian women who fought for Ukraine’s independence. Predictably, there was no mention of Halyna Kuzmenko, the wife of the founder of the world-famous Makhnovist movement. She was not only a teacher of the Ukrainian language, but also the founder of « women’s councils » within the Makhnovist movement, where women’s rights were discussed, in particular, the issue of free marriage. But unlike today’s patriots, Kuzmenko was an anarchist and fought for the independence of Ukrainians, not the state that ruled over them. Our contemporaries have yet to grasp this difference.
